As the Taris Civil Authority continues to make impressions among the city of Taris, it seems that some change in leadership has occurred in the Senate. Vice Chancellor, and Chief of TCA, Kamrodius Vance has stepped up from his role as Vice Chancellor to become the new Chancellor. When we asked how he came in to this position, he stated that the previous Chancellor simply stepped down from the role for personal reasons. And thusly, he has been elevated to the role of Chancellor henceforth.
Chancellor Vance, who prefers to be called Kam Vance for short, was born on Coruscant and is fourty four years old. His educational history includes business courses on Coruscant and experience at the well known Helios Industries and Metellos eventually becoming the COO before pushing to make a second headquarters on Taris, where he now lives. When asked if he had any significant others to speak of, Chancellor Vance replied that the Republic is his significant other, and acknowledged “At least that’s how it has to be in order to see it thrive as the beacon of hope for those across the galaxy.”
When asked what he saw as the immediate concerns of the populous on Taris, Chancellor Vance advised, “My focus on Taris is to bring peace and order to the Lower city. Currently it is chaotic with different factions holding small pieces of power. This is causing our citizens to be subjugated to varying crimes. Through mobilizing the TCA and understanding what the criminal elements exist within the Lower city we should be able to arrest those needed and garner peace. This is just the first of the many things I plan on doing for Taris, another of note is providing jobs through a shipyard to be constructed in orbit through contracts with Helios Industries.” … “As for the Republic. Peace throughout the galaxy has always been our top priority. There are many Imperial elements working against us whether in public or in the shadows. We shall however do what we must to combat them and bring more of these fringe systems into the Republic fold.”
We also asked about the former alliance with the First Order, and if there were any plans to reaffirm that relationship, to which the Chancellor had no comment and stated that he had not been briefed on any activities of the First Order. At that point we moved to ask about other alliances that he may wish to strengthen with his new position. The Chancellor stated, “My focus has been on building our relations and armies with our standing allies. For example Ryloth has offered their warriors to bolster the ranks of TCA to assist in gaining control of our Capitol planet. ”
If first impressions are any indicator, Chancellor Vance seems to have a strong head on his shoulders, and ideas about how to make an impact using both of his positions as leverage to affect change. We look forward to seeing how this new change in leadership will impact Taris as a whole, and hopefully better the community.
It can be dizzying to try and keep up with news on Taris, but among the highlights in our week we came to find out that Taris has recently had a new Chancellor installed, after the previous Chancellor Bianti has stepped down. We got the opportunity to interview Chancellor Vashti on several topics. Here is what she had to say:
To start with, for our viewers, could you please tell us who you are, where you’re from, a little about yourself, and your current position?
“My name is Riyo Vashti, though my friends call me Ri….or Rice.” She added that last bit with a small chuckle. “It comes from my habit as a child of sticking rice in my nose….I must have gotten it confused for my mouth.” She lofted her brow bone, conveying her thought of ‘crazy kid’. “I was born and raised on Shili, my uncle being the senator of Shili. I tutored under him, went to school for law, became his assistant, and eventually his senior aide. I ran for his senatorial office at twenty-one years old, got it the next year. When I came to Chandrila for the first time, I became fast …acquaintances with former Chancellor Bianti, perhaps even friends. She trained me for this, I became her vice chancellor after some time of hard work….and I took over for her when she stepped down. I am very grateful to be serving the people.”
It is always good to see situations where hard work and dedication pay off. And with that, we wish you a sincere congratulations on recently being named Chancellor, how do you feel about inheriting this great responsibility that has befallen you?
“Thank you very much. It’s very new, but I am excited to be where I am. When Chancellor Bianti took me into her office and told me she was stepping down, I must admit I was utterly terrified….at the end of the day, I am quite young, it is rather daunting, but I knew it was my duty to uphold the laws of the Republic. The fear is still there, but it is a new fear, for every one of the citizens at stake in the universe.”
I cannot imagine the weight of that responsibility, I do not envy you there. How long do you foresee your term as Chancellor being? Is there any time limit set given the circumstances?
“I will serve however long I am needed, however long I am able. Our Republic is unstable in these hard times; they, the senate, may decide to keep me in this position for years to come, but we shall see in good time.”
The Republic seems to want leadership who can identify with their needs. What do you feel that the greatest needs or areas of impact where you hope to make a difference?
“I want people to feel safe in their homes again, and more importantly, I want to clean up the violent streets of the Undercity. The people there believe we have forgotten them, but I have not. The senate has approved the construction of a homeless shelter in the Undercity, where people will relieve medical care and warm food. Finding a location is a priority at the moment.”
That sounds like a fantastic way to make a good start, Chancellor. How do you feel that your skills and experience uniquely qualify you to be effective in these areas?
“I come from a people of hunters and warriors, who fight for the needs of the many rather than the few. You contribute or you die. This way of life has taught me the value of your neighbor, of your….tribe. You do not abandon your people, you provide for them, blood relation or no. The Republic is my tribe now. I also know what it means to come from a humble life, my family certainly wasn’t rich, but I still made it here, so anyone can. Resilience is my greatest strength. I am hoping these facts will allow me to be a leader people feel connected to.”
You kind of alluded to some of this already, but if you don’t mind indulging me: There are so many under cities and struggling populations throughout the Republic. What do you say to those out there who don’t think they have a reason to care about what’s going on with the Republic? In addition to homeless shelters, do you have any other specific plans or ideas of how to help those people in addition to benefiting the greater cities and metropolis areas?
“I can understand why they do not care, or have interest to…why would they, when they’ve been ignored for so long? This can only change when they witness the betterment themselves. I can say anything I like, but actions are louder than words. I would want them to know that I am not perfect, but I will submit my perfectly imperfect self to ensuring a brighter future for them, bit by bit” … “At this last senate meeting, we approved the Taris Civil Authority, or TCA, they will be the people’s protectorate. So what I urge is for people to volunteer – sign up – be involved, and help us bring peace to this world, and then help bring it to others.”
The Republic, under the previous chancellor, had an alliance with the First Order. How is that alliance holding up, and is it still serving it’s purpose?
“Unfortunately, the situation is rather….unstable….and at this time, I am unable to reveal our current course of action. However, I will admit it’s not going…as originally intended.”
Do you seek to make any other alliances to aid in the Republic’s current struggles? Is there any group or faction that you would like to bring into the fold, so to speak?
“We are always seeking new alliances, though at the moment we have none in serious consideration. As for a group…” She seemed to hesitate on this, but finally relented. “The Madalorians are an enigma on Taris, they seem to have an ongoing conflict and adhere to their own set of rules and guidelines….this has proved to be……problematic. There is not much else I can say on this front as it is a delicate situation, one that requires care, but I am sincerely hoping to work out an alliance with them, if at all possible.”
Today marks another great landmark for the Republic as construction was finalized just minutes before our tour of the Thranta Mk 2 Class ship that is currently stationed at Bespin. After nearly three weeks of construction, we finally got the opportunity to not only have a good look around, but also to get some of the details about this creative design from it’s designer, Rhialto Tereshechenko who is also the Baron Administrator of new Tibannopolis Bespin, Shipwright, and member of the Republic.
First we visited the main Bridge. With consoles ready to fly, this ship features two seats in the cockpit and other auxiliary consoles along the rear wall as well. Next, we visited the Medical bay. This ship is equipped with a full hospital suite including bacta tanks, surgical beds, and more, so that it can dually serve as a Hospital ship if needed.
The Cargo bay was quite spacious and while it already had some cargo in it, it seemed to be far from reaching its capacity. “The photos may not describe the functionality of the ship. It is made for extremely prolonged periods of time in transit, not needed to dock at port for 2 standard years if fully stocked. It can serve as a relief ship if need be due to its large cargo carrying capacity and to some extent can be used as a medical ship.”, said Rhialto Tereshechenko.
Crew quarters and Captain’s quarters are also available and feature beds, an Autochef, shower, and toilet. Also featured was Engineering, where the ship’s drives are maintained and utilized, and the Comm / Conference room. When asked if the ship had yet been named, Rhialto indicated that it had not yet been named, but stated “the model is a Thranta MK 2…more advanced version of the older Thranta class, sharing a bit more in common with the older Hammerhead.”
Pjaysiv Panteer, Supreme Chancellor of the Great Galactic Republic said, “The Ships means safe boarders for the citizens of the Republic. It also gives hope that the Republic is ready to protect our citizens and our allies. As of late there has been news of attacks by Sith on Taris and Mandalorian space. We want our allies and our enemies to know that the Republic is ready to defend and end oppression by our adversaries abroad… now that we have new ships, the Galactic Republic is looking for good man and woman to Join The Galactic Republic Interplanetary Military (GRIM) Flier Division. There will be great opportunity for those who join with (ILM) credit pay based on mission given to you by this Great Government.” She went on to say that interested parties can contact “Vice Chancellor ZannahBlue or any members of the Senate which are Rhialto Tereshchenko of bespin, Alita Steampunk of Republic of Balmorra and Fel empire and LME, Mustafaaab Connoisseur of Naboo Space Sector, Pelora Panteer ( LydiaTaraMoon) of New Alderaan and Tiplaria ( AbigailClemencaeu) of Yavin IV.”
This is Chisato Kanagawa reporting to you live from Coruscant. Smoke, fire, and destruction litter the streets of upper level Coruscant after an explosion to its Senate building rocked the area for several blocks. Republic Security Forces and SIS scrambled onto the screen first to secure the area and then to investigate what caused this.Republic Security Forces that secured the bridge were able to give only the briefest of information regarding the explosion. They didn’t rule out that it was an accident or perhaps foul play was involved. No concrete claims could be made until evidence for either theory had been located. Due to the crime scene extending around a large portion of the city all available response units were occupied and obtaining more information was impossible. Galaxy News Watch will monitor this story as new developments are found. Laying on the streets were many bodies far too badly burned to be recognized. Continue reading
